Support
Keep severe weather data free for everyone.
Atmostorm is free to use and plans to stay that way — no paywalls, no ads, no selling your location. Donations are the only revenue model, and they go directly to keeping the service running reliably.
Ways to give
Donation options are being set up. In the meantime, if you'd like to support the project, reach out at hello@atmostorm.com — we'll get you connected directly.
Where your donation goes
Infrastructure
~$80/mo baseline
Server, database, object storage, CDN. Scales up during active severe weather days.
Upstream data
Mostly free public feeds
NWS, SPC, IEM, NEXRAD, GOES, HRRR, USGS are all public. Some premium sources (mesonet APIs, lightning) have small fees we'd like to add.
Email delivery
~$0–$20/mo
Alert notifications to users' saved locations.
Time
Volunteer
Development is unpaid. Donations that exceed operating costs go toward building out additional data sources and features.
These are estimates. If we ever grow to the point of needing formal transparency reporting, we'll move the project to Open Collective where every dollar in and out is public.
Can't donate? Still welcome.
Atmostorm is for everyone — chasers, meteorologists, emergency managers, and regular folks trying to stay ahead of bad weather. We don't gate any features behind payment.
If you want to help without giving money:
- Report bugs or inaccuracies at hello@atmostorm.com
- Share the site with people who'd find it useful
- Contribute to the open-source codebase (if / when public)
Questions
Is my donation tax-deductible?+
Not currently. Atmostorm operates as an independent project, not a registered nonprofit. If the project grows to the point where a 501(c)(3) structure makes sense, we'll reconsider.
Will you ever charge for access?+
No plan to. The core map, alerts, and API are meant to stay free. If we ever add paid features they would be add-ons for heavy API consumers — not anything that paywalls severe weather information for regular users.
Who's behind this?+
A small independent team. Reach out at hello@atmostorm.com and we'll tell you more.
Can I sponsor a specific feature?+
Possibly — email us with what you're thinking. We're happy to prioritize work that a donor cares about if it aligns with the public-good mission.
